Ann Livingston shares how the opening of Insite, Vancouver’s legal supervised injection site, was a political victory and saved lives. It converted drug users from lawbreakers to citizens. Overdoses, HIV rates and Hepatitis C rates decreased.

In the city’s Downtown Eastside there is a high rate of people living on the margin and the successful site  works at capacity yet only deals with five percent of the injections taking place in the 10-block neighborhood.

Ann says there are more questions to explore, such as what role did civil disobedience take and what strategy can be taken to create another change.
